When Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492 he had all the ambition and drive in the world. But that didn’t make him right. Everyone knows the classic Columbus story. He sailed to the other side of the world to prove that the world was round. But when Columbus set sail he wasn’t just exploring for the sake of exploring. He was looking for a quick and easy way for Europe to trade with China and India. Which is why when he landed in the Caribbean he thought he was in India. That’s why he called the Caribbean the East Indies and the people there Indians. But he had no idea how far off he was. There’s no doubt that what Columbus did was incredible. But it didn’t matter how brave or smart he was. He still was way off when it came to where he landed. And that’s true when it comes to life in general.
